Jamming with Alisha

I met Alisha Merrick at the end of 2008, when I was in South Africa visiting my family after spending a year an a half in Chicago on my LDS mission. She was there visiting her parents who had moved to Cape Town for a work contract for a few years.

We only met and talked for a few minutes, but we really hit is off! We talked about music and how we both wanted to do more with our own music. So we exchanged contact information and decided to make contact when we were both back in the USA in 2009. After just a couple months Alisha informed me she was moving to Provo for the summer to take classes at BYU to complete her degree (finally)! I was SO excited as we had discussed how we wanted to "jam" and write some songs together!

So in June and July, we got together several times and did some recordings on her macbook and we also worked on our songwriting. One afternoon Alisha song me a song she has written. She needed a song for a presentation she was doing and just decided to WRITE one herself (why not?)!

She enlisted me to help come up with the instrumentation and soon I had a guitar part and backing and some harmonies to go along with the melody she had. The evening we finished the song. Soon after that we recorded it on her macbook and she added some percussion and VOILA! It was SO much fun and I feel like this time we had together was good for both of us in so many ways!

Today, Alisha is preparing to release a novel that she wrote with an acompanying soundtrack of music that she wrote. She started a band in Texas called "Alisha Found Eden" and she is participating in music events and workshops. And I am an aspiring Singer-Songwriter, singing, performing and recording as often as I can and finding myself involved in several other music projects such as The Work and StarBiz and YouTube.

I wrote this in like 10 minutes one night for a quick video we wanted to do for work AND then recorded it with a friend in about and hour! It was SO fun!

Last night I played at MUSE MUSIC CAFE! It was awesome! The crowd was amazing and there was a great turn out! I had a great time and was lucky enough to have Stephen Baird (guitar, vox) and Jake Larson (percussion) play with me! We had a great time!

MICHIGAN and CHICAGO

Hey guys,
So I am in Michigan for the summer, seeing more of the US of A. Whoo hoo! I am also taking time to work on my music. I am writing, singing and collaborating. I will then head to Chicago in August to work on my album! YES! One day there WILL be an album.

Hammer Hands Series and THE LOFT

I am playing in a concert Saturday, June 5th in Provo at THE LOFT! I have actually never been there, but I am excited for my debut there! It is part of the Hammer Hands Concert Series organized by the talented Shaun Barrows.

I will be rocking it with the likes of Ryan Innes, Kendra Mack and the fabulous Jarret Burns.

It's been WAY too long since I last blogged. I performed 2 weeks ago at Sammy's Cafe in Provo!

It was awesome because it was outside with a great view of the UT mountains and I had a great drummer and back up singer.

CONCERT

A few weeks ago, after performing at the BYU International Student Talent contest, I was asked to sing and perform at a concert that will be on campus in a few weeks for fundraising. I will be the HEADLINER! Can you believe it!!!!! I am so excited!!!! More of this to follow!

In Studio

I was in studio a couple weeks ago recording my new song BREAK FREE. The mp3 can be downloaded for free on Reverbnation.

I also am working on a cover of Terrified (written by Kara Dioguardi and recently made popular by Didi Benami on American Idol Season 9. I just LOVE this song.

Also co-wrote a song with my roommate Ali last week. Life is good!!! :)
